Essex Police imposes dispersal orders amid car meet concerns
Police have been granted extra powers after reports an unauthorised car meet is to take place in Essex.
Braintree, Great Notley and Chelmsford have been covered by the orders which aim to tackle nuisance motorists.
Dispersal orders will be in place between 18:00 GMT on Friday and 06:00 on Sunday, Essex Police said.
"We can't tolerate activity which puts the safety of those involved, or other road users and pedestrians, at risk," Insp Phil Jackson said.
The orders give officers the power to direct anyone involved in, or suspected of being involved in, anti-social or criminal activities to leave the area or face arrest.
Insp Jackson added: "We are not anti-car enthusiasts, but our experience is that these types of events have resulted in anti-social driving, speeding, racing, and noise complaints.
"All of which has had a detrimental impact on the lives of people living nearby."
He said action had to be taken to reduce the risk of people being injured.
Earlier this week, footage emerged of an illegal car meet at an industrial unit in Flitwick, Bedfordshire.
