Five people had to be rescued from cars after getting stuck in flood water in Essex.

Two people became trapped in a Land Rover in deep water in Mowden Hall Lane in Hatfield Peverel, shortly after 15:00 GMT on Sunday.

A further three people were rescued when their car got stuck in Abridge Road in Theydon Bois, at about 16:40.

Specially trained water rescue firefighters from the county's fire service were involved in both rescues.

Station manager John Warmann urged drivers to "please find another route if a road or ford you come across is flooded".

He said: "If you drive through flood water, you'll risk... your life, our lives when we come to rescue you and your vehicle could be severely damaged - lots of car insurers won't actually pay out if you intentionally drive through flood water."
