Great Easton sheltered housing evacuated during fire in flat
Several flats in a sheltered housing block were evacuated when one of them caught fire.
Essex fire crews were called out to a kitchen fire in Dunmow Road in Great Easton at about 22:20 BST on Sunday.
The service said the fire was probably caused when an item on the hob caught alight when the cooker was accidentally turned on.
They said fire doors prevented the blaze from spreading, although five flats were evacuated as a precaution.
Station manager Lee Hurst, from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The flat has some smoke damage but this was minimised significantly by fire doors in the property.
"We did evacuate five other flats as a precaution but everyone was OK and able to get back home once we dealt with the incident."
