The maritime-themed trail returns for a second year with new attractions

A maritime-themed festive light trail launches in Poole later.

Giant illuminated anchors and tall ships and walk-through Christmas baubles are among the displays in the town centre and on the quayside.

The lights switch-on at dusk will be accompanied by a choir performance in Falkland Square.

Also on Saturday is an all-day festive celebration in Christchurch's High Street and Saxon Square, ahead of the town's lights switch-on at 17:30 GMT.

Both events are organised by Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council and sponsored by the towns' business improvement districts (BID).

A feature of this year's trail is an illuminated tree with a smartphone app for visitors to control the tree's lights.

Jacqui Rock, of Poole BID, said: "We also have a record number of local businesses participating along the trail route by decorating their store fronts, offering a chance for visitors to win a cash prize to spend in the town."

A map of the Poole Christmas Maritime Light Trail can be picked up from retailers or downloaded from the Poole Christmas Maritime Light Trail website.
