Residents invited to clear up Modbury ahead of summer
Residents of a Devon town are set to spend the weekend clearing up their community as part of an organised event.
Modbury will have a "marvellous makeover" on Saturday and Sunday with tasks including weed clearance and litter picking.
It will be followed by a second weekend for painting and planting.
Modbury parish councillor Sarah Wyatt said it would bring the community together with a "collective vision".
She said: "Modbury's Marvellous Makeover is an exciting initiative bringing the council, the traders and businesses and the residents of Modbury together with a collective vision for the town".
Shop owners and traders came up with the idea, as a way of attracting visitors to eat, shop and generally explore.
The following weekend people are invited to help with any outstanding jobs and to do a bit of painting and planting.
Catherine Gillen who runs the Brownston Gallery said: "The town will be adorned with bunting and flowers galore.
"In time there will be new signage, history boards, a mural and painted bollard.
"Modbury will be well and truly back on the list of the most beautiful places to visit, to live in, work in, eat, shop and explore."
People are being asked to help in any way they can including clearing their own patch of weeds and picking up litter.
Everyone who is able to, is encouraged to head into the town and lend a hand.
The clean up is between 10:00-16:00 BST on Saturday and Sunday, with the painting on the 27 and 28 April at the same times.
