A bomb disposal unit was called out when a hand grenade was found at a Plymouth city centre charity shop.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called at around 11:00 GMT on Wednesday, following reports of a suspected hand grenade at a shop on Cornwall Street.

Members of staff at the St Luke's hospice shop were evacuated and a 100m (328ft) cordon was put in place.

The Royal Navy bomb disposal team attended and removed the object, with the cordon lifted at about 12:40.

The item was found by a member of staff sorting through donations, police said.
