Devon A38 pedestrian dies after being hit by car

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car on a main road.

The Devon and Cornwall force said the pedestrian died after a crash at about 12:36 BST on the A38 at Dean Prior near Buckfastleigh in Devon.

"The pedestrian was sadly confirmed as deceased," said a spokesperson who added that officers were appealing for witnesses.

The road was closed westbound, leading to long tailbacks on the A38 and traffic diversions.

The A38 was also closed near Plymouth after a serious crash at Smithaleigh at about 10:30 BST involving a single vehicle.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it could not confirm any details of injuries.
