Derby: Council homes planned on former school playing field
Councillors are to discuss plans to build a complex of bungalows on a former school playing field in Derby.
Derby Homes - the housing arm of Derby City Council - intends to build 36 properties on land behind Akaal Primary School in Sunny Hill.
Planning permission has been granted for the homes and the council's cabinet will be asked to approve funding for the scheme when it meets on 10 January.
The authority said the new homes would help reduce its housing waiting lists.
It said the new bungalows would be suitable for older residents and people with limited mobility.
Latest figures, from March, showed 8,300 people looking for social housing through the council.
The new development will have one, two and three-bedroom homes around a communal garden and will be funded from the council's existing housing budget and from "right to buy" money raised from the sale of council homes.
Work on the site could start in early this year with the homes completed towards the end of 2025.
