Snow causes disruption in the Derbyshire Peak District

The weather is causing issues on the roads with snow forcing some routes in Derbyshire to close.

Snow has fallen in Glossop and across the Peak District, including around Grindleford and Castleton.

The A57 Snake Pass and the A6024 Holme Moss were closed by Derbyshire County Council at about 11:00 GMT.

Police are warning of other routes "quickly becoming covered in snow" and describe roads in Buxton as "gridlocked".

Earlier the council said all primary and secondary routes had been gritted and that crews were currently out on the high routes of the Peak District.

Buxton Police SNT have posted on Facebook advising motorists not to drive "unless you absolutely have to".

The National Trust closed its Longshaw Estate site earlier to keep staff, volunteers and visitors safe, it said.

A Met Office yellow weather warning for ice is now in place for the Peak District until just before midnight.

It has said icy patches could form on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
