Lake District plane crash: Nottingham man David Bolton killed

A pilot who died in a plane crash in the Lake District was a "fantastic father", his family have said.

David Bolton, 44 and from Nottingham, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash north of Troutbeck, between Keswick and Penrith on Sunday.

Mr Bolton, who worked as a chief revenue officer for a technology firm, was the only person in the plane.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been informed and an investigation is under way.

In a statement, his family said the father-of-two was a "devoted husband, fantastic father, loving son and brother and a loyal friend with an appetite for life".

"He made a huge impact on everyone he met, whether in his work in healthcare around the world or his personal life and will be truly missed by so many," they said.

It is understood Mr Bolton flew as a hobby and had had his pilot's licence for about two years.

The plane crashed at about 14:50 BST on Sunday, Cumbria Police said.

Orlando Agrippa, who had worked with Mr Bolton for 11 years at technology firm Draper and Dash, said the company had lost "an amazing human being" and "exceptional talent".

"Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with David have lost a friend and inspiring mentor," Mr Agrippa said.

"No words can adequately express our sadness at David's death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him.

"We will honour his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much."
