More than 8,000 knitted poppies have been created by villagers ahead of this year's Remembrance commemorations.

A cascade of poppies falls from the tower at St Peter's Church in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire, with thousands more placed around the village, including a school, 25 shop windows, the war memorial and a local Methodist church.

Organiser Kate Skinner said she was "very proud" of the installation and delighted with support she had received from across the village

They have been knitted as far afield as Florida and the Caribbean, by villagers while they were on holiday.

Organiser Kate Skinner said: "I had seen other flower installations around the country over the last few years and wanted to create something for our village.

"In January, we set out to knit and crochet 4,000 poppies.

"At first I wondered if we'd ever reach anywhere near 4,000, but the community responded with huge enthusiasm and a total of 8,003 poppies were made, double what we asked for.

"The project has been a huge amount of fun and has brought many people together in the community."
