Young people in Cornwall are being encouraged to have a bigger say in their future through local democracy.

People aged between 11 and 18 can register as a candidate in the Cornwall Youth Council elections.

Members in 12 seats are elected by other young people.

Cllr Barbara Ellenbroek said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for young people who are passionate about making a difference to help shape the future of Cornwall."

"I am extremely proud of the way our youth council holds this local authority to account" she added.

Schools need to sign up to hold elections and young people interested in registering as a candidate have until 3 December to do so.

Sasha, who is 15, said: "The youth council has helped me grow in so many ways."

Elections are due to take place between 29 January and 1 March 2024.
