Cambridgeshire pub praised in Loo of the Year awards

A Cambridgeshire pub has cleaned up with an honour at the Loo of the Year Awards 2023.

The Hippodrome pub in March won a "platinum plus" gong and praise for the quality and standards of its toilets.

Inspectors made surprise visits to thousands of lavatories across the UK, rating them on categories such as décor, cleanliness and accessibility.

Caroline Abbott, head of cleaning, said: "We're really chuffed we got this award."

The awards are aimed at highlighting and improving standards of "away from home" toilet provision across the country.

All of the inspected locations were rated and awarded silver, gold, platinum, platinum plus or the top rank of diamond - with any unacceptable toilets not graded at all.

Ms Abbott said: "We normally got a platinum but this year got a platinum plus - striving for diamond next year."

The toilets at the Dartford Road establishment are cleaned every day by a dedicated team.

"We have a ramp for wheelchairs, pushchairs and anybody that needs access to it.

"And there's an accessible toilet for a baby changing table as well," Ms Abbott added.

The event's organisers said the Hippodrome's loos were "designed and fitted out to a very high standard" and were clean and well-maintained.
