Flooding causes rail disruption between Bristol and Swindon

Flooding has disrupted drivers and railway passengers in the west of England, following heavy rain.

The railway between Bristol Parkway and Swindon has been flooded and all lines are blocked.

Heavy rain has led to the Environment Agency issuing a number of flood alert warnings across the West.

Trains may be cancelled, diverted or delayed by up to 30 minutes, passengers were warned. National Rail said disruption is expected until 10:15 GMT.

The worst of the flooding is in the Chipping Sodbury area and all trains running between Chipping Sodbury and Bristol Parkway are being diverted.

Passengers are being advised to check routes before they travel, with journeys between Carmarthen, Swansea and London Paddington affected.

The Environment Agency (EA) has issued five flood warnings for Wiltshire, with low-lying land expected to be most affected.

The EA has said properties in the Bull Pit area in Bradford-on-Avon may be affected, with river levels expected to rise until the early hours of 10 February.

"Flooding of properties may occur," a spokesperson said.

"We expect the river level to fall during tomorrow (Saturday) but this flood warning will remain in place throughout the day."
