Congresbury: Plans to build 90 new homes in North Somerset

Plans to build a major housing development of almost 100 homes in a North Somerset village are set to be decided this week.

Developer M7 has proposed to build 90 homes on a field in Congresbury in North Somerset.

More than a thousand local people lodged objections to the "Pineapple farm" plans.

North Somerset Council's planning committee is set to make a decision on whether to grant planning permission.

In a statement, developer M7 said: "Planning approval at Mulberry Road offers to deliver a vibrant sustainable new community with its own distinctive identity."

Many local residents have called on the council to refuse planning permission with 1,109 people lodging objections to the development.

Congresbury Residents Action Association saying: "Most residents of Congresbury know the importance of the field as a vital resource for exercise and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

"It is also a haven for wildlife, and a traditional aspect of the village leading down to the River Yeo."

The Environment Agency also lodged an objection to the plans, raising concerns about new vegetation near the river - but this was later withdrawn after its concerns were addressed.

Congresbury Parish Council has opposed the plans, with North Somerset Council's planning officers are recommending that the plans are approved.

A decision on the application is expected later this week.
