Walsall dog attack leaves boy needing hospital treatment

A woman has been arrested after a 10-year-old boy was attacked and injured by a Staffordshire bull terrier.

The boy, Mohammed, was being treated in hospital for injuries to his arm and legs after the attack in Bentley Drive, Walsall, on Wednesday, police said.

The dog was seized and had since been destroyed, said West Midlands Police.

Mohammed's father, Gohar Siddique, said the dog had "come out of nowhere" to attack his son as he played with a football outside their home.

He remains in hospital with "very bad injuries on his right arm and both of his legs," said the father.

"He has had a very difficult time in hospital as well, and is scared, afraid, to go outside.

"This will impact him for a long time," he added.

He has released CCTV footage and images of the attack to warn others about dangerous dogs.

"Sometimes we see the news it happens with other people and I never ever imagined that it would happen to my children," he said.

A 60-year-old woman has been detained on suspicion of possession of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury.

She has been released with a caution.

Officers said they believed the dog had managed to get out of his owner's home without her knowing.
