A fire in Birmingham caused road closures, prompting warnings of delays for Commonwealth Games spectators.

Crews were sent to a burning derelict factory on Princip Street, near Newtown, on Sunday morning.

While firefighters remained at the scene, roads that were closed for the operation had nearly all re-opened by Sunday afternoon.

But a nearby route for cycle users to get to Games venue Alexander Stadium stayed in place.

West Midlands Fire Service was called to the scene at about 06:50 BST.

It said while the fire was largely under control, some engines remained, with the cause of the blaze yet to be determined.

Nearby residents have been urged to shut their windows, as have motorists driving near the scene.
