The A507, towards Shefford, Bedfordshire, will be shut from Friday night until Monday morning

A busy road will be closed for an entire weekend to allow the next stage in a raft of improvements to take place.

The A507 at the Clophill Roundabout, Bedfordshire, will be shut from 21:00 GMT on Friday to 05:00 on Monday, Central Bedfordshire Council said.

There will be three-way traffic lights in place on the A6 north and south and the A507 west, the council added.

Further weekend closures are set for Clophill Road from 8 to 11 December.

The work will ease congestion, improve journey times and safety, and enhance air quality, the authority said.

Kerb lines, gullies and streetlights will be installed - and an island constructed - during the work.

The exact cost of the project has not been released.

The council said it had "secured £6.8m from the government's Levelling Up Fund", and would be adding capital funds to the scheme.

Work started in March and is expected to be finished by March next year.
