Broxbourne: Two new stations planned
Two new train stations could be built in Hertfordshire if plans to tighten planning policies are adopted.
Broxbourne Borough Council said stops at Park Plaza North - between Turkey Street and Theobalds Grove London Overground stations - and Turnford on the London to Bishop's Stortford route would be subject to a consultation.
Councillors agreed to develop new planning rules at a meeting on Tuesday.
The new rule would strengthen an existing policy adopted in 2020.
The existing policy contains just 23 words, does not prevent development on safeguarded land and sets out the council's intention to "work with" third parties to look at whether the new stations are feasible.
A proposed map, showing where the stations could go, reads: "The areas shown on the policies map are safeguarded for new stations, including vehicle, pedestrian and cycle access routes, at Park Plaza North and Turnford.
"Development within the boundary of the safeguarded sites that obstructs provision of new stations or station access in either location will not be permitted."
At Turnford, the draft policy would safeguard an area between the High Road roundabout and the railway, if it is adopted.
At Park Plaza, south of the A121 Winston Churchill Way near Waltham Cross, any proposals for new businesses on the land would need to consider routes to the proposed station.
