Fire at A14 petrol station near Newmarket tackled by crews

Four fire crews battled the blaze affecting two cars

Two lanes of a major road were closed after a blaze involving two cars at a petrol station.

Pictures showed plumes of black smoke and flames bursting from a car on the forecourt of a BP petrol station on the A14 eastbound, near Newmarket, Suffolk.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews were first called at 13:25 GMT and 20 firefighters from Cambridgeshire and Suffolk attended.

The blaze has been extinguished and the A14 has been fully reopened.

No injuries were reported, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said

A spokesman from the Cambridgeshire fire service said: "Firefighters arrived to find a fire involving two vehicles near a petrol filling station near Newmarket."

He said that no injuries were reported during the fire.

National Highways said lane one and two of the A14 at junction 37 for Newmarket, and Exning village, were shut on the eastbound carriageway.

The AA said there was also disruption on the A142 road.
