Flood warnings issued across the East of England for Tuesday

Residents of the East of England have been warned of further flooding.

Continued heavy rainfall across the region has led to a series of flood warnings in Norfolk, Suffolk, Peterborough, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire.

Flood alerts, which are less serious, have been issued in parts of Essex, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

People have been urged to not put themselves in "unnecessary danger" while the situation is monitored.

National Highways said traffic was brought to a standstill earlier on the A14 at Newmarket in Suffolk after water flooded across the carriageway.

"Our contractors will be working throughout the morning to clear gullies and alleviate the water," it said in a post on X.

A flood warning was issued for the River Nene at Cogenhoe Mill Caravan Site, near Northampton, and further upstream at Whittlesey near Peterborough.

Similar concerns were raised about the River Nar near King's Lynn, in Norfolk, and the River Waveney at Beccles, in Suffolk.

Flood warnings were also issued for the River Ouzel at Leighton Buzzard, Stoke Hammond and Great Brickhill, in Bedfordshire.
