Wiltshire Council have approved plans for a new Siemens facility in Chippenham.

Seven hundred jobs will be created as a train-assembling facility is officially opened.

Siemens Gamesa says its plans for its factory at Alexandra Dock will create 40 full-time jobs.

The firm says it is confident it can reach an agreement with the Unite union.

Siemens is pitching the idea of battery powered trains to be built at its East Yorkshire factory.

It is hoped the development in north Oxfordshire will create more than 1,300 jobs.

Darren Davidson, head of Siemens Energy, said the targets for offshore power "won't be achieved".

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt says the announcement is a "huge boost" for UK manufacturing.
