A man sustained injuries to his arms, thighs and hands in the attack in Newcastle, County Down.

The two men have been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The victim sustained serious injuries to his face, hands and legs in the assault.

The Mourne Gondola is a cable car ride which aims to attract 350,000 visitors to south Down each year.

Other politicians at the event included the first ministers of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Last year, the Newcastle crew launched 18 times – helping 26 people and saving three lives.

The trust says it is pausing engagement until it received comprehensive environmental assessments.

It happened on the Dundrum Road at 19:45 BST on Friday.
