Dolphins playing in a river near the Orwell Bridge is concerning, say marine conservationists.

The six dolphins were spotted swimming in waters close to a marina and near the Orwell Bridge.

The dolphin calf was swimming around in very shallow water and seemed "lethargic".

Members of the public were able to save the calf who had been separated from its mother.

The sighting reflects a rise in the numbers of the species found in Manx waters, a charity says.

Rescuers believe the female dolphin became disoriented after following fish up the tidal river.

Terry Carne says it allows him to do something he loves and contribute "something really useful".

Medics scrambled to the scene but made the "difficult decision" to put down the animal.
