Apprenticeships plea to help care leavers

Sunderland City Council is calling on businesses to offer apprenticeships to those leaving care.

Homeless pods a vital lifeline, charities say

The pods, at the Salvation Army's Swan Lodge, will provide emergency accommodation for four people.

The two-storey red-bricked building has large green doors with the letters "P" and "S" painted on them. There are several large boarded-up windows.

Proposed new Glassworks site announced

Glassworks Sunderland could be based in the former Peter Smith antiques warehouse in Sunniside.

The shipping container-sized temporary building is black and grey with "The Salvation Army" branding on it. There are four doors which are numbered.

Overnight pods for city's homeless people approved

The self-contained rooms will have washing facilities, Sunderland City Council documents state.
