Keeping money earned locally 'in local pockets'
A council in Kent has joined an economic partnership to ensure that "money earned in the district stays in local pockets".
Canterbury City Council has been welcomed into the Co-operative Councils' Innovation Network (CCIN), a partnership of more than 45 local authorities that work together to promote sustainable economic growth.
The CCIN promotes fair wages and recirculating wealth by encouraging local businesses to buy from and support one another.
Chris Cornell, the council's cabinet member for economic development and inclusion, said joining the group, which includes Lewes District Council, the City of Westminster and Manchester City Council, was a "no-brainer".
Jim Robbins, leader of Swindon Borough Council and chair of the CCIN, explained that joining the group gave councils opportunities to learn from each other.
“Our members are committed to finding better ways of working for and with local people to benefit their local community."
