People asked for views on cycle trail proposal

People have been asked for their views on plans for a new cycling route in Devon.

The Boniface Trail would create a link for walkers and cyclists between Crediton and Exeter.

The proposal by Devon County Council lists two potential options for the route, both near the A377.

Councillor Frank Letch said the introduction of similar routes was "essential" to achieving the council's goals of improving health and wellbeing.

He said: “This trail would provide a safe cycling and walking route from Crediton via Newton St Cyres, Cowley to Exeter St David's.

"It would mean that those commuting or traveling for pleasure can do so actively and sustainably."

The options for the Boniface Trail include one route mostly using off-road paths and running alongside the A377 road, and the other using existing lanes and upgraded Public Rights of Way to the north of the A377.

Mr Letch said the results of the consultation would "help identify which route is preferred by local people".

Devon County Council said no funding had yet been identified to deliver the route, and both options would require "significant further design work and liaison with landowners and other stakeholders".

Plans are available to view on the council's website and feedback can be given until 30 November.
