Snooker legend Steve Davis to headline music event

Snooker legend Steve Davis is to headline an arts festival with his electronic music group.

The six-time world champion's band The Utopia Strong tops the bill at this year's Angel Field Festival in Liverpool from 20-27 March.

They will play at the Capstone Theatre at Liverpool Hope University's creative campus on the Friday.

Davis took the snooker world by storm in the 1980s and 1990s and, away from the game, has worked as a radio broadcaster club DJ and author on topics including snooker, chess, cooking and music.

The Utopia Strong was formed in Glastonbury and released their self-titled debut album in 2019.

Their second album, International Treasure, followed in 2022 with the late DJ Andrew Weatherall proclaiming the band's sound as "gnostic sonics in a nutshell".

Liverpool's own The Savoy Jazzmen, who formed 65 years ago, will be starring in the festival on 22 March.

The festival will see a range of others arts performances, music and workshops in an line-up including the Hope Metropolitan Orchestra and Choir, which will be delivering a showcase of Mozart's music.

There will also be a concert featuring works by composers Erik Satie (1866-1925), John Cage (1912-1992) and David Revill, who died last year.
