A day of festivities will be held in a Worcestershire town to celebrate a man who made history as one of the Pilgrim Fathers.

The first Edward Winslow Day will be marked on Thursday 28 November to honour the life of the Droitwich Spa-born pilgrim, who was among the first English families to sail to America in the 17th Century.

A selection of live music, food and exhibitions will showcase the history of the Mayflower voyage.

A US flag-raising ceremony will take place outside St Richard's House from 11:00 GMT with the town mayor's Alex Sinton.

Who was Edward Winslow?

Edward Winslow was born on 18th October 1595 and was baptised at St Peter's Church in Droitwich Spa.

He was a separatist and New England political leader who travelled on the Mayflower ship in 1620.

He was one of several senior leaders on the ship and also later at Plymouth Colony and would also go on to be remembered for attending the first Thanksgiving Dinner in 1621.

Mr Winslow was one of the signatories of the Mayflower Compact, which was effectively the first constitution written in what is now the USA.
