People are being asked to comment on plans for a new incinerator which could burn up to 260,000 tonnes of waste every year.

The facility would be built at the Canford Resource Park in Canford Magna, near Bournemouth.

Non-hazardous rubbish would be burnt to produce electricity, which would then be sent to the National Grid.

The Environment Agency (EA) has asked members of the public for their views on the proposals, and said it would also consult with partner organisations.

The permit for the incinerator, also known as an Energy from Waste Combined Heat and Power facility, has been requested by MVV Environment.

The area is already an active waste management site, according to the company.

Information on issues like pollution control, human and environmental health, and the potential impact of noise and odour will be taken into account by the EA before it makes a decision.

MVV Environment also applied to Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council for planning permission.
