Wine bar and bookshop to open in village

A former estate agents on a village High Street is set to be converted into a wine bar and bookshop.

Huntingdonshire District Council has approved plans for a change of use at the Grade II-listed building in Somersham, Cambridgeshire.

Applicant Natalie Flower, who wants to hold cheese tastings, book readings and book clubs, said it would create at least two jobs with potential for part-time roles.

Planning officers recommended the change for approval, with restrictions on opening hours and the playing of amplified music.

The officers also said glass could not be emptied into bins outside the shop between 21:00 - 08:00 GMT, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Ms Flower said the plans would "revitalise" the listed building and also "contribute to the local economy".

"With the creation of at least two jobs, increased footfall, and support for local supply chains, the development will contribute positively to the local economy and help ensure the long-term viability of this historically significant property," she said.

No concerns were raised by the highways authority or the conservation team, according to the planning officers.
