The Government of Jersey is to ask islanders what they think of its plans for a sports centre in St Helier.

It said the public consultation on proposals for Fort Regent would open on 2 April.

The sports hub is due to close at the end of the year for maintenance and upgrades - set to begin in January.

The government said the "completely regenerated" Fort Regent would reopen at the end of 2028.

'A new vision'

Infrastructure Minister constable Andy Jehan, said: "We need a new vision for the Fort, and a plan to create an exciting, modern facility for the island."

He said the government's delivery partner, the States of Jersey Development Company, would gather feedback from islanders on the new proposals in a similar way to the recent waterfront consultation.

At the start of March, Jehan said sporting groups would have to leave their base in Fort Regent by the end of the year - as the works could not be carried out with the public using the site.

He said the government would help all remaining sports clubs based at Fort Regent to relocate to new or existing facilities across the island, including Springfield, Oakfield, Les Quennevais and in schools.
