Cheers! Pub celebrates hat-trick of top awards
A Surrey pub is celebrating winning a hat-trick of industry awards.
The Star in Godalming has been named Surrey pub of the year by the loal branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
The popular venue also scooped the Surrey and Hampshire border pub of the year award and the Surrey and Hampshire border cider pub of the year.
Landlord Andy Mounsey said the pub of the year award was "something I’ve been working towards ever since I started in the trade when I was 18".
Mr Mounsey and his wife Emma have had the pub for seven years.
Mrs Mounsey said: "We’ve worked very hard to create The Star as it is today and we’re very proud to have won."
She added: "It’s a hard trade to be in. Things are getting harder day by day."
Mr Mounsey said customers had been travelling from "far and wide" to visit the pub.
"It’s increased trade already. People are obviously talking about it."
The Star's cider pub of the year victory is its 11th in a row.
