Man charged after lorry driver dies in M6 crash
FamilyA man has been charged following the death of a lorry driver in a crash on the M6.
Ghulam Haider, from Dudley, is accused of causing death by dangerous driving and using a vehicle without insurance near Stoke-on-Trent on 27 February.
Cliff Tamou had left his HGV, which had broken down, when he was killed between junctions 15 and 16 shortly before 22:00 GMT.
Mr Haider, 22, appeared at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Saturday and was remanded in custody until his next hearing at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 7 April.
Mr Tamou's family said the 58-year-old, from Wigan, was a rugby player, coach and referee who moved to the UK from New Zealand more than 30 years ago.
They described him as a devoted husband, father to six children and grandfather to five grandchildren.
In a post on X, Salford Red Devils Women's squad said Mr Tamou had been an "avid supporter" of the side, which his daughter plays for.
