Closure warning as burst water main damages road
Nuneaton Fire StationA water main has burst and "lifted" the surface of a road in Warwickshire.
Firefighters were called following the burst on Newcomen Road, near Melrose Avenue, Bedworth, on Thursday.
People were warned to avoid the area for safety reasons as a large part of the road had been “lifted in numerous places”, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said.
Severn Trent apologised to homeowners who have seen their water supply affected and said engineers were working to fix the burst pipe.
A post on the Nuneaton Fire Station page on Facebook said the road was closed and all vehicles, particularly lorries, were advised to stay away from the area.
“A water main has burst lifting a large proportion of the road in numerous places. This is unsafe to drive over until Severn Trent attend to rectify the issue,” the post added.
It said some homes have been left without water as a result of the burst.
A spokesperson for Severn Trent added its priority was to get everyone's supply back to normal and to have the pipe fixed as quickly as possible.
"A small number of properties may be experiencing lower water pressure than normal and we’re really sorry about this," they added.
The fire service confirmed one of its crews attended the burst and helped Severn Trent with the road closure.
