Pedestrian dies after city centre collision

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a motorcycle in Leeds on Monday.

West Yorkshire Police were called at 15:00 GMT following reports of a collision between a blue Voge 125cc motorcycle and a man on Great George Street in Leeds.

The pedestrian, 65, was taken to hospital but died a short time later, officers said.

The motorcyclist, a 26-year-old-man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was also taken to hospital with facial injuries.

The road was closed to traffic before being reopened just after 21:00 GMT.

Police are asking for anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident or have dashcam footage, to contact them.
