Man arrested after woman raped on Christmas Day

A 20-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was raped in Leamington Spa on Christmas Day.

Police had appealed for information after the attack in the town centre between 01:00 and 03:30 GMT.

A man, from Bristol, was arrested on Thursday night and remains in custody as Warwickshire Police continue to investigate.

Anyone with dashcam or CCTV images of the area including the Parade, Clarendon Avenue, Beauchamp Road, Beauchamp Avenue, or Kenilworth Road from midnight and 04:00 on 25 December is asked to contact the force.

The force is also asking anyone who assisted a woman in a white coat in the town centre, between 01:00 and 03:30, to get in touch.

Det Sgt Nicola Norris said: "The community has been left appalled and worried by this incident and I hope this update goes some way to reassuring everyone that this is an absolute priority for us.

"We will not have people feeling unsafe in our town, and residents will have hopefully noticed a heavier police presence in the town centre at night.

"Officers are out on patrol to make sure people are safe, please go and chat with them if you've got any concerns."
