Date set for restoration work at historic museum
A date has been set for renovation work to begin on the Museum of Farnham in Surrey.
Waverley Borough Council said scaffolding and a temporary roof would be erected around Willmer House from 6 January 2025.
The work will include the restoration of the brickwork and windows, and is due to finish in early 2026.
The museum is due to remain open while the work takes place.
The council said it hoped to restore the timber sash windows, which date from 1718, while modern paintwork will be removed from the windowsills and entrance door to show the original Portland stone.
The guttering and drains will also be cleaned and repaired.
'Dedication to heritage'
Funding for the project has been provided from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Arts Council England, Waverley Borough Council, Farnham Town Council and the Farnham and District Museum Society.
Kika Mirylees, Waverley Borough Council's portfolio holder for community services, leisure and equality, diversity and inclusion, said: "We are so happy that this work is now starting and that the historic integrity of this beautiful building will be preserved for the community.
"This project is a testament to our dedication to maintaining our heritage sites for future generations and we are working hard with partners to ensure any disruption to the local community is kept to a minimum."
