Staff at Guernsey Airport stepped in to make sure the Christmas letters and parcels went off on time, after Guernsey Post's security scanners broke down.

Guernsey Post said two sets of scanners stopped working on Saturday evening as staff were preparing to load the mail plane - risking a delay.

However, Guernsey Airport's security team offered to scan packages with the airport's own facilities, meaning the flight could still leave on time.

Steve Lawrence, head of transport at Guernsey Post, said the airport team's "quick thinking and support" meant it could "keep the mail", adding: "This kind of teamwork is what makes all the difference, especially in the lead up to Christmas."

Guernsey Post said: "With Christmas fast approaching and knowing how important it is for gifts and cards to reach loved ones, bringing the mail back to [our headquarters at] Envoy House was the last thing we wanted to do."

Travis Torode, who heads up the security team, was mentioned for special praise.

"We are incredibly grateful to Travis and the team for stepping in and going above and beyond to help us in this situation," said Guernsey Post.
