Crops destroyed in 'rapidly' spreading field fire

Four crews were called to extinguish a field fire after it "spread rapidly" due to strong winds.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service attended Pudsey Hall Lane, Canewdon, at 13:35 BST earlier.

Upon arrival, firefighters found about seven hectares (17 acres) of crop were alight.

The fire was extinguished an hour later and the cause recorded as accidental, the service said.
