The fire service said: "Crews were faced with a high-intensity, fully-developed fire involving HGVs and tyres."

Firefighters have battled an overnight blaze after HGVs and tyres ignited at an industrial site in Warwickshire.

Crews were called to Kisses Barn Lane in Polesworth just after 20:00 BST on Friday.

Nuneaton Fire Station, which had crews in attendance, said firefighters "were faced with a high-intensity, fully-developed fire".

It added: "With water supplies being minimal, crews did their upmost to control the fire in the conditions and save three vehicles."

The fire station also said "large plumes of acrid smoke filled the night sky", adding the Environmental Agency was informed and local residents were advised to close windows.

A dam was set up to provide a continuous water supply to the scene.

Nuneaton Fire Station said there were crews in attendance on Saturday still damping down.

Jeff Williams, who works at Polesworth Donkey Sanctuary, which is in close proximity to the site, said they had been bombarded with calls from the public worried about their animals, after a misunderstanding about the fire's location.

"We've had lots of upsetting calls. People have been phoning up crying asking if we're okay," he said.

Mr Williams added: "I've never seen a fire like it in my life."
