A Carrickfergus-based lift manufacturer has been taken over by a US firm.

Pollock Lifts employs about 175 people at its base in the Trooperslane Industrial Estate in County Antrim.

It has been bought by Florida-based Harmar Mobility for an undisclosed sum.

Saunders Graham, Pollock Lifts Managing Director, said the deal was "a great outcome for our customers and team members".

He added: "We have spent the last 25 years building our incredible business and are excited that Harmar will continue our strong traditions of quality products and customer satisfaction”.

The existing management team will stay in place and manufacturing will continue to take place in Carrickfergus.

Last year the Pollock group made a pre-tax profit of £746,000 on turnover of £23m.

US firms have a significant presence in the Northern Ireland engineering sector with major employers including Terex, Collins Aerospace and Caterpillar.
