Three men have been jailed for using a forklift to smash into the front of a Home Bargains shop and steal an ATM containing £55,000.

The incident was part of a burglary spree which also saw houses in Essex and Hertfordshire targeted in April 2024.

Essex Police said one homeowner in Royston, Hertfordshire, was held captive in their own bathroom by one of the men who was armed with a crowbar.

Shane Hadderton, 36, Marvin Usher, 33, and Deividas Fiodorovas, 36, admitted a series of charges and were sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court.

Shane Hadderton, Deividas Fiodorovas and Marvin Usher all conspired together to burgle properties in Essex and Hertfordshire
  • Fiodorovas, of Howard Road, Royston, admitted two offences of conspiracy to burgle and one count of conspiracy to steal. He was jailed for six years and eight months
  • Hadderton, of Glenway Close, Maldon, Essex, admitted conspiracy to burgle and was jailed for three years and nine months
  • Usher, of Parthia Close, Royston, admitted conspiracy to burgle and conspiracy to steal, and was imprisoned for two years and five months

During their spree of offending, police said the burglars stole a pick-up truck and JCB forklift to use in a ram-raid at Home Bargains in Parkeston, near Harwich, Essex, on 8 April.

The forklift was used to rip a cash machine from the wall of the shop and load it onto the truck.

However, the ATM was later found dumped at Harwich and Dovercourt Golf Club, damaged irreparably but still containing £55,000 inside.

Further burglaries took place in Dovercourt, Little Horsley, Walton-on-the-Naze and Royston, with more than £140,000 worth of jewellery, watches and valuables taken from two homes.

Hadderton admitted driving vehicles to and from the burglaries, but denied entering the properties, police said.

The force added Usher's involvement was limited to Home Bargains, while Fiodorovas admitted being complicit in all of the offending.

Det Insp Frazer Low said the crimes were "deplorable".

"Holding one of the victims in the bathroom of the Royston property while carrying out a burglary, armed with a crowbar, shows the men responsible put their own financial gain over everything else," he said.

"They are now out of harm's way and I hope the victims of these deplorable crimes can begin to process and recover from them."
