Chip shop caught serving after hours
A takeaway has been caught serving customers later than its licence allows after a late-night visit from enforcement officers.
Customers were seen in Albany Fish Bar on Caroline Street - also known as Chippy Lane - in Cardiff after 23:00 BST twice in May, a council committee heard on Wednesday.
It followed complaints about people being served until 05:00 and a sign outside the takeaway saying it was open until 02:00.
Owners Pinbest Ltd said the manager in charge of the premises at the time of the complaints had since left.
Pinbest's Abdul Kowsor said the breach was an exceptional case and the premises has a long history of providing late-night refreshment in the area.
"We will provide a positive impact," he added on a licensing application.
Authorities granted a licence to serve from 23:00 to 05:00 on Friday and Saturday and from 23:00 to 02:00 on Sunday to Thursday.
Conditions of the new licence include the need for the premises to have door staff after 23:00, the installation of CCTV and no external seating on any given day.
"We believe they [the conditions] are quite stringent and any enforcement action, if we do not adhere to them, will be severe," Mr Kowsor said, adding the company would work with police and the council "to ensure safe customer service in that area".
