Man, 20, admits causing baby death after car hit mum

A driver who hit a pregnant woman on a pedestrian crossing has admitted to causing the death of her baby by dangerous driving.
Lancashire Police said the baby boy had to be delivered in an emergency operation but died later in hospital when Ashir Shahid, 20, hit his mother in Bamber Bridge, Lancashire on 29 September.
The mum-to-be, who was in her 30s and five-and-a-half months pregnant , was struck on Station Road close to the junction with Longbrook Avenue and Fourfields shortly before 20:00 BST.
She was left with serious injuries and is still recovering after treatment in hospital, a police spokesman said.
Shahid, of Windsor Road, Walton le Dale, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday.
A 16-year-old boy, from Walton le Dale, appeared in the dock alongside Shahid on Wednesday and admitted assisting an offender.
Shahid was remanded into custody to be sentenced on 14 August at the same court, when the 16-year-old will also be sentenced.
