Works restrict vehicle access to A&E at hospital

Access to A&E and a children's emergency department at a hospital in Derby will be restricted to some vehicles until winter.
The road leading to the departments at Royal Derby Hospital is fully accessible to emergency vehicles and visitors will still be able to access the road in an emergency to drop off patients, or to provide closer access to people who require it.
The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) said vehicles can only use the road to drop off a patient and vehicles must then leave to keep the area clear for emergency ambulances.
A spokesperson for UHDB said the restrictions would be in place until the winter period for construction work.
How do I get to A&E?
To access A&E on foot, UHDB has told people to go through the hospital main entrance and follow the red signs.
If you walk to A&E outside, you must follow the pedestrian diversion signs.
If you are dropping someone off at A&E at Entrance 9, UHDB said there are no drop off bays or parking spaces.
However, in an emergency you are able to drive to A&E and the Children's Emergency Department to drop off only.
If you require disabled access to A&E, UHDB said you can still use the road to be dropped off.
The disabled car parks are located in Car Park 2 and 3, with a signposted route which involves taking the lift to level 2 and then following the signs to A&E.
UHDB said the construction works include refurbishment and expansion of the cardiac catheter suite for patients, installing temporary chiller units so replacement work on the roof can be completed and improving power cabling and upgrades to the substation.
