A telecoms worker from Kent has become the top goal scorer in this year's FA Cup competition, scoring more than the likes of Manchester's City's Erling Haaland and Eberechi Eze, who scored the winning goal for Crystal Palace at Wembley.

Father-of-four Gary Lockyer, 32, scored 10 goals for Ashford United in the men's FA Cup this year.

His achievement means he earned himself the trophy for scoring the most goals in the competition this year, as well as a box at Wembley to watch the final between Crystal Palace and Manchester City.

Speaking to the BBC's Football Focus ahead of the game, which was won by Palace 1-0, he said: "To score 10 goals is unbelievable and [so is being] here at Wembley and to see the final."

Lockyer scored 36 goals in all competitions this season with Ashford United, who play in the the Isthmian League South East division - the eighth tier of English football.

Ashford exited the FA Cup in the third qualifying round but Lockyer still had his moment in the spotlight.

"I've been here many times to watch Manchester United, many times," he said.

"The FA Cup is the oldest competition, a chance for us non-league players to excel and it's the most magical in the country.

"So scoring 10 goals is unbelievable, and be here at Wembley and to see the final."

Lockyer has just signed a new contract with Ashford and is hoping for more FA Cup action next season.

He said before the final that he fancied Palace to lift the trophy "all day long".
