Tattoo picture released in lake death appeal

A photo of a man's tattoos has been released to jog people's memories two months after he was found dead in a lake.

The body of Jamie Attwood, 37, from Raunds in Northamptonshire, was discovered in Stanwick Lakes, 2 miles (3km) from his home in July.

He had been reported missing three days before.

Northamptonshire Police said they wanted to provide Mr Attwood's family with "the answers they deserve" about his death.

The force said it was working with the coroner's office to establish a timeline leading up to Mr Attwood's death.

Officers are keen to talk to any witnesses who may have seen him on 27 July in the Stanwick Lakes area.

Mr Attwood is believed to have travelled to the popular nature reserve from the Oliver Twist pub in High Street, Irthlingborough, that evening.

The force said he would have been wearing a light grey hooded tracksuit with a black backpack, and a smaller bag around his neck.

Det Insp Torie Harrison said: “We want to provide Jamie’s family with the answers they deserve regarding how their loved one died, and I am appealing for anyone who may have seen Jamie in the days leading up to this death to come forward.

“As part of this appeal, we are including a photo of Jamie and a photo of the distinctive tattoos he had on his chest, in an effort to jog people’s memories."

Det Insp Harrison added that the force was aware there were areas cordoned off by barbed wire at Stanwick Lakes, which "we know people frequent".

"We are asking anyone who may have been in those areas and saw Jamie to speak to us."

She emphasised that the force was "not looking to criminalise any witnesses for where they may have been, we simply want to offer Jamie’s family some understanding of the events that led up to his passing".
