Highland Council has proposed a 10-year plan for the running of its public toilets.

The local authority operates 74 loos and gives funding to 53 other providers, including community groups, to make toilets available to the public.

It sees the provision as important to local communities and the region's visitors, but added that one of the biggest challenges to the service was vandalism.

The plan includes proposed new builds and refurbishment of existing toilets.

Locations suggested for revamps include Lairg, while new toilets have been built in Achmelvich - a popular tourist spot on the north Highland coast - and Gairloch.

Toilets in Fort William and Nairn have been among those shut for lengthy periods because of vandalism.

Councillors will be asked to approve the plan at a meeting next week.
