Work to demolish a former cinema could begin as soon as April after new plans were submitted.

The old Kings Cinema in West Bromwich town centre will be torn down if an application by Sandwell Council is given the go-ahead.

If approved, demolition work would start in a number of months and be complete by the autumn.

Plans to turn the site into a "vertical forest" were given the green light in 2021, but no action was taken.

Developers wanted to build a 15-storey "Wellbeing Tower" with hundreds of plants adorning the sides, similar to homes seen in Holland, Italy and China.

The latest plans are part of a £15m regeneration of West Bromwich town centre, which has targeted "underperforming" sites that will be demolished to "kickstart" regeneration.

Kings Square Shopping Centre and other nearby land has already been bought by the local authority.
